Our History

It was 1937, when the world was just beginning its ascent from the Great Depression. And in Billings, Montana (pop. 20,000) one man began a simple job: installing and maintaining the city’s streetlights. Just three years later, Yellowstone Electric Co. was formed.

As Billings grew, so did we. New buildings were being constructed, and Yellowstone Electric was the first phone number developers called. Our name became synonymous with quality work and professional people. This became evident during the height of the Cold War, when the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) called on us to assist with the installation of its underground Cheyenne Mountain complex.

Our philosophy of using the right technology, the right tools and the right resources has allowed us to work with hospitals, banks, schools, hydroelectric providers, refineries and commercial businesses in a variety of industries. We establish and maintain long-term relationships with our clients by understanding their unique needs and looking for opportunities to make them more profitable. Team members take ownership in every project, remaining consistently focused on the needs of every client regardless of size.

Today, Yellowstone Electric Co. is leading the way in our industry by investing in knowledge, training and multiple technologies. We remain as committed to quality work and professionalism as we were more than 70 years ago, constantly working to increase efficiencies, improve service, and discover new ways to exceed our customers’ expectations.

Because at Yellowstone Electric Co., We’re Wired Differently.
